About Flame Fatale™

Flame Fatale™ is a hoopdance and fire dance performance company
that creates unique and unforgettable entertainment for special events.
In our own lives, we have experienced the transformative power of
live performance and the value of self-expression. Flame Fatale is
an avenue for us to share our experience with audiences while providing
the wow factor and having fun. While we explore our own
creative sensibilities, we seek to encourage audiences to imagine
and envision possibilities beyond the norm. Everyone has unique gifts,
and many of us are on a journey to find and express them in the world.
We hope that we can inspire others in this process, encourage people
to step out, find their voice and make their offer, as we do the same.
We are also staunch advocates of the notion that the body is a source
of wisdom. We believe that everyone has rhythm, and that in some cases,
people have simply forgotten it. In this context, the purposeful practice
of Hoopdance can be a tremendously versatile vehicle for strengthening
the mind/body connection, remembering natural rhythm and experiencing
the joy of physical expression.
We offer interactive and participatory assemblies in schools, organizations
and corporate settings. We use our own colorful, custom-made, easy-to-use
over-sized hula hoops to provide satisfying and successful experiences
that enliven the body, increase awareness, and stimulate creative
thinking and expression.
About Sara
Flame
Fatale™ owner and principal Sara Munro, returns to the world
of performance after an extended hiatus that has included stints teaching
high school English at independent schools on both coasts, including
Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, selling outdoor clothing
for outdoor industry leader Patagonia, and writing and illustrating
feature and news stories as a reporter and photographer. Off the newspaper
beat, she still writes freelance in the arena of outdoor sports, arts
and entertainment, and especially loves digging up stories about ordinary
people and organizations doing extraordinary and inspiring things.
She started dancing when she was five, and has always pursued some
form of strenuous physical activity, including competitive figure
skating, modern dance, tele-mark skiing, technical rock and ice climbing,
and yoga. After separating her shoulder in a mountain bike accident
in the hills of Santa Barbara and injuring her feet while trekking
in the Andes of South America, all of her physical activity ground
to a screeching halt as a life major transition began. After a career
change and shoulder surgery, she landed on the edge of the Mojave
Desert in Joshua Tree California, and began a time of inner examination
and search for calling. Her work with the hoop over the
last four years, along with revisiting the performance arts she pursued
as a child, are part of her personal transition, which have resulted
in the birth of her company, Flame Fatale.
A natural teacher, Sara has been instructing one thing or another
since she was 18. As a college student she taught swimming and life
saving during the summers, and figure skating in the winter. After
graduating from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in English Literature
and Theater, Sara taught English, ran drama programs, directed plays,
and taught Physical Education and dance at the secondary school level.
More recently, she has taught rock climbing for companies who guide
in Joshua Tree National Park, taught writing to US Marines at the
local Marine Base through Copper Mountain College. She now brings
her years of experience with students of all types to sharing the
possibilities of the hoop!

Sara,
On behalf of the staff and volunteers of the American Cancer Society
Relay for Life, please receive sincere gratitude for your amazing
talents as Flame Fatale. Your wonderful performance provided a perfect
prelude to our Luminaria ceremony and awed the entire audience. You
were a significant part of the largest first year event in the entire
California region! Your contribution of entertainment greatly assists
us in working together toward a future in which cancer no longer threatens
the people we love. Thank you!

I wanted to thank you so much for partnering with MPISCC for the Welcome
Reception at our 2006 Weekend Educational Summit. Your performance
truly lit up the evening, in all senses of the word. The crowd was
awed and impressed by you. Flame Fatale brought the WOW factor to
Hotel Zoso. It was such a great way to end the night with a bang!
You were also such a joy to work with and I look forward to working
