What are the benefits of friction tape?
Friction tape makes your hoop feel a little more “sticky.” For example, if you’re working the hoop up and down your thighs over a slick material, or attempting to move the hoop from your waiste to your chest with your arms overhead, the hoop can feel slippery, making it more difficult to maneuver and creating a sense of being out of control of the hoop. Friction tape makes your hoop slip less, allowing you to more easily direct it because there is more friction between you and your hoop. Any hoop can be made with friction tape.
What difference does hoop size make?
Simply speaking, larger hoops rotate more slowly, and smaller hoops rotate more quickly. When you’re learning to hoop, larger hoops are more forgiving because they give you time to execute movements slowly and accurately. Larger hoops also allow you to begin to feel the hoop moving around your body, to become accustomed to its rhythm and to develop your own rhythmic response to it. We recommend starting with a hoop of at least 40 inches. Because smaller hoops rotate more quickly around your body, they require you to execute movements with more precision. As your skill level increases, and if you want to challenge yourself, then choose a smaller hoop and play and experiement with its performance.
